You should be able to bump start this beast - they used to bump start Norton Manx's and that was a highly tumed racing thumper.
What gear did you use - should have been 3rd or 4th even - the engine is going to not be happy when it first turns over but it should roll over and fire in the higher gears. Get that clutch disengaged as soon as she fires and be prepared to work the throttle
Bummer about the bent bars - but that is the way of the world - most of my bikes have had wonky bars from simple tumbles
Keeping the rubber side down in this case is a matter of some delicate balance and paying attention to a lot of details all at once
